A Limited Edition Numbered Serigraph, handsigned by the artist, Gloria Swanson. It was created for the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) in 1980 to accompany a UN stamp issue entitled "The United Nations Decade for Women."  The Federation was proud to present this first day cover as yet another first for Miss Swanson, her entrance into the field of philately.  Her design is an impressionistic painting in pastels which shows the earth in a trail of blinding light streaking across the black infinity of deep space. Conceptually, Miss Swanson is saying that earth is also a holy receptacle -- the surface of the continent and oceans subtly suggesting an embryo which has begun to crystallize in its journey across the heavens. Written within the print in the lower right hand corner by Ms. Swanson is the following quote: "Woman, like Mother Earth, has an eternal rendezvous with spring."
