This ran in a 1935
edition of McCalls magazine. Full page ad for movie 'Anna Karenina' starring
Greta Garbo, Fredric March and Freddie Bartholomew. Copy reads: "In
writing 'Anna Karenina', the great novelist Tolstoi searched the hidden
heart of a woman - more deeply, more pitilessly, yet more understadingly,
than any man had ever done. Now that story reaches the screen in all its
power, with all its deep emotion. Only one actress could adequately play it.
No routine production could do it justice. It called for a Garbo - and for a
production as sincerely authentic as that of 'David Copperfield'." |
