Norma played the piano and sold sheet music in a
Montreal music shop. Florenz Ziegfeld once advised her to stay out of the
theatrical business because he thought she had nothing to offer.

One
of Norma Shearer's most famous portrait photographers was Laszlo Willinger,
who arrived on the scene in 1937, Marie Antoinette being one of his
first assignments. His skill and eye for exactness captured the essence of
Louis XVI's France, and showed off the costumes-- especially Norma's-- in
fabulous detail. Willinger also photographed The Women, skillfully
weaving his way through byzantine alleyways of star-crossed protocol as
established by Shearer, Crawford, and Russell. Enjoy these up close and
in-your-face portraits, testimony to a man of rare talent!
