Norma's charisma and
sense of presence-- when she was in a room, she was the only one
in the room-- attracted the best photographers of her day, whether
famous or now-forgotten. They formed an appreciative crew of admirers
who saw instinctively what Norma was all about, and the happy marriage
of their skill and her charms left us with thousands of striking images.
Here is a selection of rare stills made by photgraphers like Bud
Graybill, Henry Waxman, Edward Steichen,
Nickolas Muray, Cecil Beaton, Lusha Nelson, Melbourne Spurr and many
more...

MGM photographer Bud Graybill became so adept at pleasing the stars that
they frequently asked him to photograph their parties, christenings, and
other private affairs. "Some days I'd be shooting fashion for Maureen
O'Sullivan; then I'd be doing glamour for Lana Turner; the next day I'd be
on the set doing publicity, taking pictures that would make good layouts.
And when political or military statesmen visited and the whole studio would
turn out to greet them on a sound stage, I'd cover it, too. To me the
thirties were the optimum years of the entire business."
