Since the very
beginning, ever since the first klieg light blew a fuse in the wake of an
approaching star's even greater glimmer, literally thousands of books and
articles have been written about the denizens and doyennes of Hollywood.
Across the decades, unfortunately, much erroneous scholarship has been
accepted as fact, especially during the 1960s and 1970s when the first wave
began to depart for that great big studio in the sky -- these ladies and
gentlemen simply weren't around to defend themselves, or were too far gone
to realize what was being misinterpreted. Norma Shearer herself fell
victim to this sort of thing but, as current authors have stated, the
availability nowadays of the great body of her work on video has caused people to
have a better, more earnest look at Norma. Thanks to this rediscovery,
biographies have been written about her, and she has been featured on the
covers of numerous tomes dedicated to glamour, costumers, and the pre-code
productions which Hollywood reveled in before the censors clamped an angry
chastity belt across the industry's talents and sensibilities. You will be
immediately surprised at the number of books that take into account Norma
Shearer's contributions to the art of film-making -- not only a star of
the highest magnitude, this actress helped introduce millions of
moviegoers to a certain sort of sophisticated, take-charge woman, years
before Gloria Steinem burned her first bra. Herewith, for your reading
pleasure, a library dedicated to Norma Shearer... please be patient with
us, as this is an ongoing project; we will be adding more and more books
every week, each title accompanied by a descriptive digest for your
reading pleasure... thank you!
