"Young
man... it's one TWO three dip, not one two THREE dip... imbecile!"
| After
completing her training with the first class of the Drama Division of
New York’s Juilliard School, Patti
LuPone began as a founding member of John Houseman's The
Acting Company. She was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Actress
in a Musical for her performance as Rosamund in The Robber
Bridegroom (1976), but it was for her star-making turn as Eva
Perón in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita (1980) that she
finally won the coveted title. From there, she appeared in New
York as Moll in Marc Blizstein's The Cradle Will Rock, Nancy in
Oliver!, and Reno Sweeney in Jerry Zak's acclaimed revival of
Cole Porter's Anything Goes, while stopping over in London as
Fantine in Les Misérables and Norma Desmond in Sunset
Boulevard. She is a recipient of the Olivier Award as Best
Actress in a Musical for her performances in Les Miz and The
Cradle Will Rock. Her non-musical credits include Dario Fo's The
Accidental Death of an Anarchist, David Mamet's The Old
Neighborhood, Michael Frayn's Noises Off!, and appearing
as Maria Callas in Terrence
McNally's Master Class. Her next appearance on
Broadway will be as Mrs. Lovett in the up-coming revival of Stephen
Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, reprising a role that she first played
in a famous concert staging with the New York Philharmonic. |
