Eunice Kathleen Waymon was born on February 21, 1933, in North Carolina. She started out singing and playing piano in church. In 1954, worked singing and playing the piano at the Midtown Bar in Atlantic City, NJ. It was at the Midtown Bar where her career took off. Nina played many clubs in Philadelphia. In 1958, she came out with her first album Little Girl Blue. The first single that she released from that album was I Loves You Porgy which was a hit for her and that launched her recording career. Dr. Nina Simone died on April 21, 2003. Mary J. Blige has been cast to portray the immortal Nina in a forthcoming biopic.
