Thomasina Tammi Montgomery Terrell was born on April 29, 1945, Philadephia. She began her career in the music business at the age of 13. In 1961, she recorded on the Scepter Records. She recorded songs with James Brown. In 1965, she was discovered by Berry Gordy, Jr. and signed to the Motown Records label. In 1967, she recorded a series of hit records with Marvin Gaye. Her success didn’t last long. In 1967, she passed out, was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
