She had a penchant for flushing toilets with hot water.

----------

When she married Onassis she was the most famous woman in the world, and drew up a legal document as a wedding agreement asking for 20 million dollar up front.

----------

There were times she was more famous than her president-- JFK introduced himself to an audience in France as "The man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris."

----------

Her cousin and aunt (her father's sister) are the subjects of a 1976 movie/documentary titled "Grey Gardens."

----------

When John Kennedy, Jr. was dating Madonna, the latter was thrilled with the prospect of meeting the former first lady, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Jackie disliked Madonna and elegantly dismissed her from her apartment.

----------

After finishing school, Jacqueline won a writing contest sponsored by Vogue magazine, but turned down the prize - a year's job at the magazine.

----------

On her wedding to John Kennedy, she wore a dress that required 50 yards of ivory silk taffeta and two months to make.

----------

At her funeral her son described three of her attributes: "love of words, the bonds of home and family, and her spirit of adventure."

----------

Was dubbed "the Debutante of the Year" for the 1947-1948 season.

----------

Maria Shriver, who is married to Arnold Schwarzenegger, is her niece.

----------

Of the title First Lady, Jackie once said, "It sounds like a saddle horse," and she asked her staff not to call her that."

----------

Jackie and JFK's years at the White House are known as the "Camelot era" or the "Camelot years."

----------

After the sadness of a miscarriage and the stillbirth of a daughter, Caroline Bouvier was born in 1957; John Jr. was born between the election of 1960 and Inauguration Day. Patrick Bouvier, born prematurely on August 7, 1963, died two days later.

----------

She once stated that she did not spend the astronomical amount she was accused of on clothes.  She said that she could not spend that much unless she wore sable underwear.

----------

Throughout her life she was known as a prolific letter writer.

----------

Was riding horses at age four and winning equestrian championships at age five.

----------

When she toured India in the '60s, more people came to see her than came to see Queen Elizabeth.

----------

When she was First Lady she was asked what she fed her new German Shepherd puppy. Her reply was "Reporters."

----------

So eager was she to preserve her privacy that in her will she charged her children to maintain it after her death.

----------

She turned Washington from a small town into one of the world's social centres.

----------

She raised awareness in people about the importance of conserving historical sites such as Lafayette Square. Without her influence such places would no longer exist.

----------

Jackie and her sister Lee Bouvier Radziwell disapproved of one another. Jackie felt Lee was a spendthrift and Lee thought Jackie a tight-wad.

----------

Once during a 15-minute 'blitz' on a NY department store, when the assistant informed her that the bill was $150,000, she shrugged her shoulders and retorted, 'Fine, charge it to Mr Onassis!'

----------

It has been estimated that during their 7 years of marriage, Jackie spent over $50 million of her husband's money on herself, and that Onassis himself lavished fifty times this amount on her.

----------

Wore a white Valentino mini-skirt when she married Onassis.

----------

When she married Kennedy, her own father was late to the wedding, so it was her stepfather Hugh Auchincloss (Uncle Hughdie, her name for him) who walked her down the aisle.

----------

When gossip columnist Doris Lilly predicted on The Merv Griffin Show that Jackie and Onassis were going to marry, she was spat at and booed as she was leaving the studio for daring to suggest that Jackie would ever sink so low.

----------

Rose Kennedy considered her so perfect that she referred to her once with the utmost respect as 'The Madonna'.

----------

As First Lady, she was a patron of the arts and an international fashion-trendsetter.

----------

Under her supervision the White House was restored and redecorated and declared a National Museum. She managed to do so with the help of her rich friends, without costing the taxpayer.

----------

Jackie used to smoke three packs of Salem a day.  Lyndon B. Johnson always made sure he had Salems when the Kennedys visited his ranch.
