Ricky (Singapore) on Imelda Marcos
"National gay icon!"

Austin (UK) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she is a sexually dominant woman who held a country in thrall for decades."

Delia (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Though she is accused of stealing money from people of my homeland, I think she truly epitomizes the term diva - she was nothing but excessively extravagant!"

Imee (Israel) on Imelda Marcos
"She is Imeldific!"

Gigi (Ireland) on Imelda Marcos
"She is Imelda Marcos! Nuff said!"

Sammy (Mexico) on Imelda Marcos
"She has all the qualifications of a real diva."

Jen (Japan) on Imelda Marcos
"A definite Mover and Shaker!"

Mannie (Indonesia) on Imelda Marcos
"Beauty, wealth and power... she has it all."

Pat (India) on Imelda Marcos
"Imelda Goes To Heaven : Imelda dies and goes to heaven. The heavenly court is gathered to welcome all the newcomers to heaven. God the Father is there seated on his throne in all his splendor. The Second Person of the Trinity is there also, and the Holy Spirit, the Virgin Mary, and all the saints. As Imelda enters, everyone stands up except God the Father, who does not get up from his throne. Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity turns to him, and says, "Heavenly Father, what's the matter? Why don't you stand up to welcome Imelda Marcos? God the Father replies: "I am afraid to lose my seat. If I stand up she will take my throne."

Strung (Iceland) on Imelda Marcos
"She definitely shook the Philippines and moved people of the U.S."

Rich (Hong Kong) on Imelda Marcos
"One striking pose and she has Presidents kissing her hand."

Alexis (Greece) on Imelda Marcos
"She's a beauty queen, billionaire, popular and a supreme Prima Donna."

Rimal (Germany) on Imelda Marcos
"Quote: If you're a little presentable, you're called frivolous. Beauty is frivolity it seems, but beauty is love. You can never have an excess of what is democratic, just and beautiful. You can't say a woman is overly beautiful but you can say someone is overly ugly. It is against religiosity to be surrounded by ugliness. Unquote"

Penny (Dominican Republic) on Imelda Marcos
"Who else but a real diva would say "Win or lose, we go shopping after the election."

Paulizzia (Cyprus) on Imelda Marcos
"She said: "It's the rich you can terrorize. The poor have nothing to lose." - in Fortune, 1979"

Bambolea (New Zealand) on Imelda Marcos
"Just check this website out and see for yourself

Paulyn (Canada) on Imelda Marcos
"She is majestic and regal. Personification of grace and style."

Frank (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Imeldific, fantastique!"

Benny (Singapore) on Imelda Marcos
"She's got style... she does womanhood proud!"

Ed (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"A diva is essentially someone who recreates herself into somebody bigger than she is.  In this case, Imelda fits the bill perfectly.  From a young girl who grew up in an island hut, she far exceeded her provincial origins, moving into the presidential palace, then the shoes, buying up the Crown Building in Manhattan, and all the trials and tribulations of a diva - she has carved a mythic persona of herself."

Gerbert (Canada) on Imelda Marcos
"She was able to help the common people through her health care, infrastructure and projects."

Jessica (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"I love to love Imelda. She's my role model. She's so misunderstood!"

Giselle (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Why if I was her, I would buy hats too!  Not just shoes! And she's a real B*!  Imagine her own children wearing a shirt that says, "Don't blame my Dad. Blame my Mom!" in the country's University campus!"

Xandy (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"She's definitely not just a political diva but also a fashion icon. Although she's now over 70, she was able to maintain her good figure, flawless face and her charisma still never fades. I love the way she dresses and the way she matches her jewelry and shoes with her trademark gown with butterfly sleeves!"

Katrina (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"Smart, beautiful, lover of art, inclined to politics, strong woman."

William (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Beautiful, intelligent, witty, loves art, strong willed."

Neftartari (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Classic beauty, strong will and character, lover of arts, dynamic, loving mother and she is a true diva."

Marychris (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she was a great leader."

Leila (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she was a brave lady."

Grace (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she was the former first lady of the Philippines."

David (UK) on Imelda Marcos
"Every time it seems Imelda is down for the count, she gets back up again, and as outrageous as ever. Sure, she was ostentatious, but no more so than Princess Diana and Eva Peron, the only difference is that she got older, whereas the other two, in dying young, got a permanent lock on public sympathy."

Volker (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"She has it all."

Arnold (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"Just amazed and wondering about her real personality."

Dhemter (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"She's great!"

Mani (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Eccentric, loud, powerful, truly believed she was fabulous, admired herself, controlled every one and everything around her."

John (Indonesia) on Imelda Marcos
"Her story reminds me of "I Love Lucy!""

John (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"I love her life story."

Jose Maria (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"She's a very strong woman, very cunning and intelligent!"

David (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she's invented herself well enough to be politics' 'Madonna' and she has that fabulous gay attitude! You go girl!"

Christopher (UK) on Imelda Marcos
"Imelda is the political Diva.  A diva possesses both great power and great insecurity.  Imelda, by her life as an example, shows both.  A diva is also a survivor - which Imelda truly is - of an impoverished childhood, of unrequited love, a traumatic marriage, a nervous breakdown, a miscarriage, an assassin's knife, a political revolution that drove her to exile, a criminal trial, and the mockery of the world.  And of course, a diva possesses a darker side, the claws without which a true diva can never be without... and the toughest hide that a diva needs to survive."

David (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"She had it all: beauty, talent, power, wealth. Even after her fall, she has demonstrated remarkable survival skills. Two trials, two acquittals. Everyone said she was through in 1986; she has since been elected to the Philippine House of Representatives and still has looks and wealth to envy. Got to give Imelda her due."

Mustafa (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she is so evil ... and cool!"

Lauren (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she is a woman who represents the weakness of our gender - and with her example, I try to mend my ways in the right direction."

Amor (Philippines) on Imelda Marcos
"... because she is a symbol of beauty, love, power and wisdom. Her life is indeed colorful and full of controversies. No one knows the veracity of her tall tales but lots of instances prove them.  She is being discredited by ugly people because of envy of her eternal beauty."

Katerina (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"A true diva commands great power but with a terrible price; a diva survives at all cost; a diva's unquenchable ambition is to the point of delusion, yet a diva manages to succeed against all odds.  She sacrifices her private life gladly in order for her public persona to thrive.  A diva needs her public in order to go on.  She is also a tigress and can be a thieving murderess if it suited her purpose.  A diva is fearless and her darker side continually beckons.  All these traits belong to only one lady on your list.  Her name is Imelda Marcos."

Reggie (Canada) on Imelda Marcos
"Imelda, of course! A regular Lady Macbeth, except Imelda is greedier and smarter.  Who else in the line-up ever wore bullet proof bras while spending her poor country's national budget on wild shopping sprees on 5th Avenue, address a U.N. plenary session, and get away with it?  During a political uprising in 1986, with less than 24 hours to flee Manila with her husband, strongman Marcos, with angry crowds at the palace gates, Imelda still managed to have 75 crates of her stuff packed while she doled out bonuses to her weeping maids!  Imelda also insisted on leaving all the dirty dishes in the palace unwashed as they left, so Cory Aquino could take care of it.  As somebody else in this forum already mentioned, Imelda is a survivor of a great many things that mere mortals would have been completely run over. Imelda, as bad as she is, survives with fabulous aplomb, and nary a hair or jewelry out of place!  The world may laugh at her, but it is Imelda who laughs last - all the way!
to the bank, a Swiss bank that is..."

John (Germany) on Imelda Marcos
"Imelda Marcos is a beautiful lady and a great politician. She is true inspiration."

Prince Abdul (Holland) on Imelda Marcos
"Of the political divas, only Imelda Marcos could top them all - 2,000 pairs of shoes with matching handbags - but who else can match Imelda when, upon finding out her husband, dictator Ferdinand Marcos, had an American mistress, gave the poor girl less than 24 hours to pack her bags and leave the country..."

Julie (UK) on Imelda Marcos
"I love these comments about Imelda - rather horrifying, really - but still, a real diva! I recall reading that she once told a crowd, during the Presidential election that ousted her husband Ferdinand, on Cory Aquino: "How could you even think of voting for that woman (Cory), she doesn't even wear make-up!"  Only a true diva could declare such an absurdity - and not be laughed out of the stage! Yes, brava indeed..."

Armand (USA) on Imelda Marcos
I admire Imelda's 'hairdo of eternity'  It hasn't changed since 1965!  Only a true diva could wear a hairstyle that long and get away with it! In 1973, during an assassination attempt on Imelda by a man wielding a very big machete, Imelda managed to shield herself by crossing her forearms and, but for dozens of stitches later, saved her own life.  The remarkable thing is, that not a strand of that remarkable hairdo was out of place! Of course, being a true diva (an evil one that is), she made the rounds with the photographers as soon as she recovered from hospital, showing proudly to the world the wounds she'd sustained - a willing martyr for her husband's fledgling dictatorship, the 'New Society' as she had branded it. Brava, diva!

Ava (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Imelda was once called the most powerful woman in Asia - even the infamous Madame Mao looked upon her as a role model. Once, facing the judicial tribunal that was investigating the assassination of one of her political enemies in Manila (Imelda was obviously guilty), the tribunal having learned it was Imelda's birthday that day, stood up and sang her "Happy Birthday To You!"  Of course, Imelda got away with murder. How else could you define Power?"

Amir (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"She would lie straight to your face without batting an eyelash, look fabulous, while signing your death warrant."

Prince (USA) on Imelda Marcos
"Who else among the other political divas have risen from poverty, slept with a city mayor to win a beauty pageant, ruled as strongly and as corrupt as her husband Ferdinand a country of 50 million people for 21 years, had her foremost political nemesis assassinated in front of TV cameras at an international airport, steal $25 billion from her own country, amass 3,000 pairs of shoes, dated George Hamilton, fled a revolution into exile with pearls hidden in packages of baby pampers, wore a floor length blue ball gown to her jury trial in NYC, tread the full length of St. Patrick's cathedral on her knees, (and then win her trial), have the balls to return to her native country, run for president and lost, run for Congress, and win  ...and have a refrigerated corpse for a husband!"
