Remembered today as a vitriolic, sexually ambivalent
actress in action movies like Conan the Destroyer,
and as a highly successful original pop artist, Jamaican born Grace
Jones started out as a model. Jones was signed to one of New York's top modeling agencies but her looks were too strong for American magazines, so she
spent several years in Paris working as a successful model. Statuesque and strikingly beautiful,
she gained fame as a cover
girl for such with-it publications as Vogue and Elle. Her androgynous style made her extremely
successful in New York City's underground and nightlife scenes. As a singer she wowed her fans
with her outrageous stage appearances, sharing the stage with wild animals and
scantily dressed male dancers. |
