Agnetha's 1974
tight-fitting blue satin Waterloo costume left little to the
imagination. Indeed, it was to start a worldwide fascination with her
bottom which would last throughout her career. |
----------
|
In April 2004, Agnetha
released a single If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind from the
Album My Colouring Book, as a comeback after years of living as a
recluse since the infamous ABBA split in 1982. The song, originally a hit
for Cilla Black in 1969, was released to coincide with the 30th
anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. |
----------
|
Born on 4 May 1950 in
Jönköping, Sweden, Agneta (she added the "h" to her name later) was the
older daughter of Ingvar an Birgit Fältskog. Her father was the manager of
a department store. |
----------
|
She is known in Sweden as
Garbo II-- for feeling haunted by her overwhelming fame during
ABBA's heyday. |
----------
|
During her time alone,
Agnetha is known to have suffered from a number of phobias including
flying, open spaces, crowds and heights, and she underwent treatment to
overcome her difficulties. |
----------
|
For the sake of ABBA,
Agnetha and Bjorn claimed that their divorce was amicable. As is so often
the case, it was anything but. |
----------
|
She lives on the island
of Ekerö outside Stockholm. |
----------
|
Many
of Abba's best-known outfits were designed by Owe Sandström. The
white jumpsuit with green and white cape as worn by Agnetha during
the 1974/1975 tours was the costume that helped her acquire the tag the sexiest
bottom in pop music. |
|
Of all the things
she experienced with ABBA, she claims the Australian tour was the most
incredible. |
----------
|
She always wears a small,
narrow gold ring on her right ring-finger - her mother’s confirmation
ring. |
----------
|
When Abba went on television to
do Ring Ring in the qualifying round of the Eurovision Song
Contest, on the 10th of February 1973, Agnetha was expecting. In fact, she
was overdue by a few days. |
----------
|
She was never sewn into her Waterloo
costume, as has been so often suggested. It just happened to be a very
tight fit. |
----------
|
By 1977 every other household
in Australia owned at least one ABBA record. |
----------
|
It was an Australian journalist
who first cited her bottom as the sexiest in pop music. |
----------
|
It was Agnetha who broke the
news of the break-up of ABBA in an interview that appeared in Dagens
Nyheter’s Sunday edition on 23 January 1983. Neither Björn, Benny
nor Frida responded to the headlines. |
----------
|
To promote Wrap Your Arms Around
Me, her first English-language solo album, Agnetha did 17 television
programmes, 28 radio interviews and over a hundred newspaper interviews. |
----------
|
She considers The Heat Is On
her best solo record. |
----------
|
Ever since she was involved in
a horrendous near accident on a flight, during ABBA’s 1979 tour of the
USA, she’s been uneasy about flying. She avoids flying where possible. |
----------
|
Because of her shyness and
loathing of the media, the Swedish press often compare Agnetha to Greta
Garbo calling her Our new Garbo. |
----------
|
ABBA’s song Thank You For
The Music has a particular significance to her, because when they
recorded it she was pregnant with Christian and was forced to lie down to
sing it. |
----------
|
Her favourite ABBA record is The
Winner Takes It All. |
----------
|
When it comes to composers and
lyricists she puts Lennon/McCartney foremost. |
----------
|
The three topics she loves to
engross herself in and read advanced books about are yoga, astrology and
Ayur-Vedic medicine. |
----------
|
During a ten year period from
1987 onwards she neither played, sang nor listened to music. |
