Her Oscar-winning part in Moonstruck (1987) was originally offered to Sally Field, who turned it down.

She was the subject of an episode of The X Files called The Post-Modern Prometheus. The episode concerned a deformed man who adored Cher because of her role in Mask, in which her character cared for her deformed son.

She and Barbra Streisand are the only two female performers in the U.S. to have had a number 1 hit and won an Oscar.

Cher is the most famous Hollywood personality of Armenian ethnicity. Of her 1993 trip to Armenia she said "It was the only place I'd ever been where everyone looked like me."

Once Cher was asked if she had a boyfriend that moment and she said, "No. It's not that bad. It's better to have no one than to make Mr. Wrong into Mr. Right."

People magazine reacted to her portrayal of a lesbian in Silkwood with a cover reading "Cher: She's gay and gritty in Silkwood, but off-screen she still loves glamour, glitz, and guys."

Worried that Best Actress nominee Cher would offend viewers of the 1987 Academy Awards ceremony, sponsor Coca-Cola demanded to see the dress that she was wearing to the show. She refused to show it to them.

She owns the longest Billboard chart span between number 1s (1965 - 1999) of any pop recording artist. (I Got You Babe in 1965 and Believe in 1999). She Is also the only certified female performer in music history to have had a US number 1 single in the 1960s 1970s 1980s and 1990s.

She wore a $12,000 Bob Mackie gown to the '86 Oscars, at the time the most expensive dress ever worn to that event.

Supposedly on her 40th birthday she saw hunky 22-year-old bagel-boy Rob Camilletti for the first time and said, "Have him washed and brought to my tent."

When David Letterman asked Cher why she hadn't been on his show before, she responded: "Because I thought you were an asshole."

Beirut-born Sulaiman Al-Kehaimi, who masqueraded as a member of the Saudi Arabian Royal family, gave Cher a Lamborghini supercar for her birthday while entertaining her at a £50m chateau in Monte Carlo.

When Believe hit the No. 1 spot in March 1999, Cher became the oldest female ever to hit the top spot.

She landed on Mr. Blackwell's famous 'Worst Dressed List' twice, once with the comment that she looked like "a Hawaiian Bar Mitzvah".

Cher was the original choice for the part of Esther in 'A Star is Born'. The part had been all but promised to her, but then Barbra Streisand and her then boyfriend Jon Peters just walked in and took over the project. Cher was embittered by the fact that the project not only had been taken away from her, but that it had been done so by a rock and roll outsider. She declared, "Barbra doesn't know shit about rock and roll." Because of the behind-the-scenes machinations on A Star Is Born, the relationship between the two women, never close to begin with, was done irrepairable damage.
