Meet the Moms!

 

When a gaggle of rich, overdressed Roman matrons approached Cornelia, the mother of the Gracchi, on a busy street they demanded of her: "Show us your jewels!!"  Cornelia gathered her children close and replied, "These are my jewels."

Whether or not we like to admit it, everyone (except for O) has to have a mother; in that respect, the world is full of them: short ones, tall ones, fat ones, and small ones.  In these days of petri dishes and in-vitro fertilization, it's nice to know that the warmth of the womb is still never further than a gin and tonic away. Herewith, a gallery of mothers, the great majority of whom can be classed as Stage Mothers. A breed unto themselves, many of these dames lived the lives of performers without ever having trod the boards themselves. Firmly hitching themselves to their daughters' wagons, these Mommies are sometimes as famous as their young charges. Enjoy... and try not to get in their way!
