I love her thirty plus years of hits, her persona, her influence on all singers that transcends across every boundary of music, and the awesome r-e-s-p-e-c-t she receives is very admirable. It's what we all want."

Rami (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"This is my abbreviated two cents of how 'retha has moved me ... the woman known as Aretha, the Queen of Soul, Lady Soul, Ree Ree, Ms. Ree, 'retha, Ms. Franklin, Soul Sister Number One, and so on, moves me so much. I must admit that it's difficult for me to honor 'retha without being partial. Because she captured my musical ear many years ago, when her voice was nearly flawless, when most singers were so intimidated by the sheer power of her physical voice, that they wouldn't dare attempt to sing with her. I remember as a child back in the early 70's, when my mama and aunt would put the 45 record of "Rock Steady" on the hi-fi and we would dance in the living room. I loved the fire in her voice and those awesome bass riffs in the song. As a teenager back in the late 70's, before there was a "real" black radio station on the fm dial, I remember turning on the am radio one day and hearing a woman singing that really caught my ear. Because it was so different than the other singers on the radio, because of the way she would make her voice leap from note to note kind of like an acrobat, one moment singing in a low register, then the next moment without notice just amazingly leap several levels above that to a piercing, mesmerizing note that I've never heard anyone sing. Especially moving was the way she would hit those very high notes, like she was doing gymnastics with her vocal chords. I was like wow, how does she do that... who is that?! We were poor, so I didn't have the money to buy the record, so I just recorded it off the radio and played it over and over and over and over again, until I had it memorized note for note, and as a teenager growing up in a black church who's voice hadn't changed yet, I could nearly match her note for note, vocal leap for vocal leap. That was fun! The song was entitled "When I think about you". Although, the single was not a smash hit, her voice was a smash hit in my book. That initiated the admiration for 'retha's voice. But I didn't become a "real" 'retha fan until I heard her hit "United Together" on the fm radio. But what really pulled me into the fanship, is when she changed gears and started to climb the scale midway through "United Together" and she hit that spine-tingling note... United Together! That did it! Hahahahaha! I was like, she's back on the radio, and I gotta get that song! But with a voice that powerful, I said, "Forget the single, I want the whole album". I've been a "real" 'retha fan ever since. My teenage years were very, very, very rough, hard and turbulent, filled with major depression, loneliness, and abuse. During those hard years I received consolation from friends, but it was Aretha's powerful voice that helped lift me when I was down, and the few times I was up, she kept me soaring. All I had to do was put on "Hold On, I'm Comin'", "Come To Me", "It's My Turn", "There's A Star For Everyone", "Search On", etc. and she would help bring me out and up! Consequently, it created a sort of bond with her voice, without ever meeting the actual woman behind the voice. In fact, the bond was so tight that my biological mama would often say that I love Aretha more than I love her. At the time, I thought she was crazy for saying that, but maybe I did love her voice that much, because of what listening to her sing had done to help me through... ah, the power of music. But I guess ms. Franklin will never know how beneficial her work has been to me, and in fact has helped save my life. I realize that 'retha's voice is not what it used to be. I'm not deaf to that. But I also will never forget what it was, and what she unknowingly did to help me through. I'm much older now. Consequently, I can't do some things that I could, I can't hit certain notes the way I once could, I can't run as fast as I once could, I have grey hairs now, sometimes my joints hurt, etc... I'm no longer a music fanatic. But I still admire Ms. Franklin's long, blessed career of music. She will always be the Queen of Soul... always. She will always be the grandest, most admired, most respected African-American woman in music... always. 'Retha has made a few ruthless enemies along the way, whether she intended to or not. Most have waited for her to age and for her vocal power to weaken, before launching their attacks and unconstructive criticisms. Because she was too powerful a force when she was younger. Hence, what cowards they obviously are... whether they be the wannabe-queen-of-souls that always tried to steal her crown, or they be the naysayers that simply liked to cause trouble... envy her, many do, it comes with the crown. Despise her, many do, it comes with the crown. Low-rate her, many do, it comes with the crown. Kick her when she's down, many do, it comes with the crown. Unconstructively attack and criticize her voice, now that she is no longer in her prime, many do, it comes with the crown. Under-rate her vocal abilities, now that she's in her 60's, many do, it comes with the crown. Try to tarnish her image now that she's no longer in good physical shape, many do, it comes with the crown. At 60+, she's still has the power, r-e-s-p-e-c-t and clout, that nearly all of her peers in the same age group have only dreamed of. Her enormous repertoire of music containing major hits, awards, honors, and performances, in esp., During her prime years, speaks for it all. Her work has been done. The foundation was laid many moons ago. Hence , why other vocalists admire her, r-e-s-p-e-c-t her, honor her, mimic her (I don't need to name any names here...haha), and envy her. She impressed us many years ago, she moved us many years ago, her work has been done, and her talent has been proven. That proof is obvious! Now she is seasoned and just riding out her reign. Her title, Queen of Soul, is forever. You get my r-e-s-p-e-c-t 'retha... All hail the Queen! Thank you Jesus, for 'retha's legendary talent. Thank you 'retha, for your voice. God bless ya, sista!"

There is no denying time only makes the heart fonder in appreciation for the joyous music Aretha belts out. Oh the feelings and the reminiscence of time, reunion with loved ones. God let one angel out to sing the blues, with spirit, and soul, that demands each individual should be respected and respect others, as with all things where good things flow... God is close by."

Miriam (USA) on Aretha Franklin

Sarah (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"She is the most passionate and heart moving artist out there and has been for a long time.  She has a certain captivating magic like no other."

Orhan (France) on Aretha Franklin
"Ms. Franklin not only has the most beautiful tone (listen to such songs as Day Dreaming, Angel or Without the One you Love), but also one of the biggest ranges in secular music. Her vocal technique is such that it allows her to convey just any feeling through song, be it love, tenderness, fear, melancholy, joy, faith or anger. She can sing high, low, soft or loud. She has a vocal imagination that allows her to embellish or strip down songs as she feels, and make them her own. She can tackle any musical style from gospel to pop, to soul to opera to rock to jazz to traditional folk songs, with equal truth. And last but not least, and perhaps this is what really sets her apart, she is a natural musician always eager to listen to a wide variety of styles and let herself be influenced by them - Aretha plays the piano, composes music and writes lyrics beautifully. She dos not let success, failure, critics or fans trap her into a given style or image - she is every woman, or rather every person and allows anyone to be able to identify to some part of her work. There might be more prolific composers, better pianists, more powerful voices, bigger ranges, or more consistent performers. There is not one that has the full package that Aretha has been able to offer for so long, and possibly not one that has her emotional depth and interpretative skills! All hail the Queen!"

Robyn (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"... because soul music is my favorite music and she just has that voice that just hypnotizes you. She has always made a lasting impression on me and especially since I saw her in concert about a month ago in Foxwoods in Connecticut."

Patricia (UK) on Aretha Franklin
"No one does it better than Reefa! She's the Queen of divaism, nuff said."

Lisa (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"Sang out her soul, sang out about freedom, love, relationships, and being purely woman. A total diva who does deserve the title she usually has. She sang for her gender, her race, her pleasure and her gift-and this does make her a diva and a soul singer."

Johnville (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"Sings with passion and fire."

Nicole (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"She is my favorite diva because she has influenced the way we rate divas now, such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Bette Midler. Also, her voice is spectacular!"

Marie-Josee (Canada) on Aretha Franklin

Sandra (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"The enigma of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, has withstood the test of time; her voice has transcended beyond the clouds; her life perseverance embedded in the corridors of our hearts. I grew up listening to the Queen when things were great; and I was pacified by the Queen when things were not going so good. Aretha, I salute you! Maybe one day my dream will come true... to sit down and have some collard greens and hot water cornbread with the Queen as she critiques my versions of "Natural Woman" and "Baby I Love You.""

Do not retire that voice. I have been a great fan since her first single, "I ain't never loved a man the way". I want her to keep up the good work.  Go! Go! P.T. (USA) on Aretha Franklin
"No question. This category is not about musical phrasing (Aretha knows it), personal style (she exudes it), hit records (Aretha has had them all), or even sheer volume. This is about attitude. Nobody - nobody - can top Aretha Franklin's attitude. From the anthem R-E-S-P-E-C-T to her triumphant destruction of the anemic Céline and her cohorts at VH1s Diva Live, there is no doubt that Aretha Franklin outdoes them all. She is the perfect diva - monolithic, unquestionably talented, massively entertaining, thoroughly admirable, but not someone you can imagine sitting down to for a homely dinner. She is diva, and fits only on a stage (no mic needed). She eats wimps like Janet Jackson or Agnetha for lunch."

Aretha's roots have always been in the church and always will be. She is a tree legend that will never be forgotten for as long as I live. Aretha has it all, the power, the fame, the attitude, the style, the divaness, the good stuff, and the voice of an angel from Heaven.
